The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present three performances by the Golden Dragon Troupe in an upcoming production entitled "Glamorous Classics by Cantonese Opera Virtuosi" in March. March 17 (Saturday), 7.30pm

"Red Shoes Solves the Mystery Case"

Widow Yang Liujiao feels lonely and has an adulterous affair with Qin Sanfeng. They kill Qin's wife and frame Yang's sister-in-law Su Yugui and her lover Liu Ziqing as the murderers. Zuo Weiming, the prefectural magistrate, suspects there is something fishy about the case. With suspicions about Yang, Zuo looks at how the case began and finally identifies the killers. Justice is served for Su and Liu.

March 18 (Sunday), 7.30pm
Auditorium, Tai Po Civic Centre
"Merciless Sword under Merciful Heaven"

The descendants of Han Xin were denounced and killed by Queen Lu. The clan changed the family name to Wei and became dispersed. Wei Chonghui and Lu Daoci, however, are childhood friends and they do not know about the family feud. One day, Chonghui learns of his origins and is given the "merciless" sword, symbolising that he will shoulder the responsibility of restoring the family's honour. The King of Ji wants to destroy the Wei's and the Lu's armies. Daoci's father Lu Huailiang is regretful. The feud between the two families comes to an end and Chonghui leads their united army to fight back against the King of Ji.

March 19 (Monday), 7.30pm
Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall
"The Double-pearl Phoenix Hairpin"

Scholar Wen Bizheng encounters Dingjin, the daughter of Huo Tianguan, and picks up her double-pearl phoenix hairpin. Ding Hanchang, the adopted son of Duke Wei, has no real talents but he wishes to marry Dingjin. To please the Duke, Tianguan betroths Dingjin to Hanchang. Dingjin goes to the capital city to look for Bizheng. Fortunately, the Emperor bestows the title of princess on her. Bizheng wins the champion scholar title but he refuses to marry the princess. But then, at a toast, he realises the princess is his lover and the couple ask the Emperor for permission to wed.
