Goods vehicles safety enforcement operation concludes

     Police yesterday (November 30) concluded a four-day territory-wide operation which served to remind goods vehicle drivers of the importance of safe driving.

     This was the latest in an ongoing series of operations conducted by the Police using enforcement to target moving traffic offences, with a view to reducing traffic accidents and maintaining a smooth traffic flow.

     The operation resulted in the issue of 34 summonses and 2,860 fixed penalty tickets. Eight goods vehicles were suspected of violating safety requirements of the Road Traffic (Construction and Maintenance of Vehicles) Regulations and were sent to the Motor Vehicle Examination Centre for further investigation.

     Among the 2,894 summonses and fixed penalty tickets issued, 141 were issued for failing to comply with traffic signs, 133 for using hand-held mobile phone while driving, 92 for speeding, 79 for seatbelt-related offences, 58 for overloading, 17 for construction and maintenance offences, 15 for insecure load, eight for failing to comply with traffic light signals, 2,064 for illegal parking and 287 for other traffic related offences.
