The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Dr Law Chi-kwong, conducted his second-day visit programme in Beijing today (November 29) by calling on the International Labour Organisation - Beijing Office and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office (HKMAO) of the State Council. He also visited a vocational training institution and a service unit for persons with disabilities.

Dr Law first visited the International Labour Organisation - Beijing Office and met with its Director, Mr Tim De Meyer, and representatives of the organisation. They exchanged views on the latest developments of a range of labour issues in Hong Kong and the global trend in the labour arena.

Dr Law then proceeded to the Beijing Industrial Technician College. The college is certified by the Beijing Municipal Government as the training base for highly technical talents. It is a comprehensive vocational training institution offering pre-employment education, on-the-job training, accreditation of job-specific skills, forecasts of job demand and career services. Dr Law toured around the teaching facilities in the college. He also visited the China Assistive Devices and Technology Centre for Persons with Disabilities, a welfare service unit directly under the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF).

In the afternoon, Dr Law called on the HKMAO of the State Council and met with the Director of the HKMAO, Mr Zhang Xiaoming. Dr Law briefed him on the latest development of various labour and welfare policies in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Starting tomorrow (November 30), Dr Law will attend the two-day ministerial segment of the high-level intergovernmental meeting on the midpoint review of the Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities, 2013-2022, jointly organised by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific and the CDPF. The aim of the meeting is to review the progress made in the implementation of the Incheon Strategy to "Make the Right Real" for Persons with Disabilities in Asia and the Pacific, and to adopt an outcome document, namely the "Beijing declaration, including the action plan to accelerate the implementation of the Incheon Strategy", that will provide an action road map for member states for the five years from 2018 to 2022.
