HA partners with green groups to launch "Green Delight in Estates" Phase 11 community environmental education programme (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Housing Authority:

"Green Junior's Academy on Waste Reduction" is the theme of this year's "Green Delight in Estates" Phase 11 community environmental education programme that the Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA) has launched in partnership with the Business Environment Council, Friends of the Earth (HK) and the Conservancy Association.

Officiating at the ceremony to launch the new phase, the Permanent Secretary for Transport and Housing (Housing) and Director of Housing, Mr Stanley Ying, said today (November 29) that the programme has raised the environmental awareness and participation of residents, and nurtured a green atmosphere in the public housing estates.

In the past 10 phases, the HA has collaborated with green groups to organise environmental activities with a variety of themes, including a promotional campaign on clean and proper recycling, green living carnivals, talks and workshops on waste reduction, visits to green facilities, exchange of second-hand goods, quizzes and more. Around 25 000 residents and students have been trained as Green Estate Ambassadors to promote green messages and activities to other residents with a view to building a green and healthy living environment for the community.

For the 11th phase, the programme mascot Green Junior will take a proactive role in engaging residents in waste reduction and recycling messages through year-round activities. Green Junior will greet residents of public rental housing estates and teach fans to practise proper and clean recycling. These activities aim at raising residents' awareness of waste reduction and recycling as well as encouraging them to reduce and save resources in their daily lives.

Other officiating guests at the ceremony included the Director of Operations of the Business Environment Council, Mr C F Leung; the Governor of Friends of the Earth (HK), Mr James Wong; and the Chief Executive of the Conservancy Association, Mr Ken So.
