Hospital Authority's response to Director of Audit's report

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
 
     In response to media enquiries on the release of the findings and recommendations of the Director of Audit's report on the Hospital Authority (HA)'s management of public hospital projects today (November 22), the HA spokesperson issued the following statement:
 
     The HA agreed with and accepted the findings and recommendations of the Director of Audit's report on the HA's management of public hospital projects. The HA will gradually implement all the recommendations to further enhance the planning, administration and monitoring of hospital projects, with the key items highlighted as follows:
 
  1. The HA will take measures to ensure that the estimation of HA project cost is as accurate as possible and strengthen the co-ordination between works and medical staff on the interfacing of construction work and medical operations at nearby hospital buildings;
  2. The HA will closely monitor the progress of commissioning of services at completed hospital projects;
  3. The HA will ensure better utilisation of new hospital buildings and medical equipment by exploring interim gainful uses of vacant areas and ensure that the procurement of medical equipment dovetails with the commissioning of the related medical services in new hospitals; and
  4. The HA will strengthen the planning and implementation of minor works projects and take measures to initiate more projects to improve the conditions of the HA's ageing facilities.
