DAFRA Drum's "Tlé" to bring West African music and dance to Hong Kong (with photos)
***********************************************************************************
DAFRA Drum - a West African drum and dance ensemble from Burkina Faso - will entertain audiences with its dance spectacular "Tlé (The Sun)" on November 10 and 12, showcasing the vibrancy and passion of West African music and dance.

"Tlé" means "the Sun" in Jula, a West African language, and symbolises the light in the lives of African people and their smiles. Set in the courtyard of a mythical African king, "Tlé" powerfully combines the energy and precision of Burkina Faso's leading dancers and musicians, interweaving joyful rhythms and dynamic routines with traditional wrestling, griot singing, and dancing with sacred masks, bringing the excitement of their festive celebrations to Hong Kong.

Olivier Tarpaga, the director and choreographer of "Tlé", excels in both music and dance art forms and has a repertoire of styles extending from traditional to contemporary. Having performed and taught in more than 50 countries around the world, Tarpaga currently serves as a lecturer at the Department of Dance of Princeton University in the United States, where he also teaches at the Department of Music.

DAFRA Drum, established in 1995 by Artistic Director Olivier Tarpaga, is an internationally acclaimed multicultural ensemble which performs dance and drumming in the griot tradition of West Africa. The group plays a rich musical repertoire full of rhythms and harmonics, sharing the culture of the ancient Manding Empire through music, dance and storytelling and delighting audiences of all ages.
