SCED to attend APEC Ministerial Meeting in Vietnam

     The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Edward Yau, will depart for Da Nang, Vietnam, tomorrow (November 7) to attend the 29th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministerial Meeting.
 
     The theme of this year's APEC meeting is "Creating New Dynamism, Fostering a Shared Future". Participating ministers will review the progress made in the implementation of ongoing programmes as well as this year's four endorsed priorities in three plenary sessions entitled "State of the Regional and Global Economy and APEC’s Leadership", "New Dynamism for Growth" and "New Dynamism for Regional Economic Integration". They will focus deliberations on the ways forward and deliverables to be submitted for APEC Leaders' endorsement.
 
     The four endorsed priorities this year are promoting sustainable, innovative and inclusive growth; deepening regional economic integration; strengthening micro, small and medium enterprises' competitiveness and innovation in the digital age; and enhancing food security and sustainable agriculture in response to climate change.
 
     On the sidelines of the meeting, Mr Yau will hold bilateral meetings with other trade ministers to exchange views on trade-related issues.
 
     Mr Yau will return to Hong Kong in the morning on November 10. During Mr Yau's absence, the Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Dr Bernard Chan, will be the Acting Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development.
