******************************************************************************************
The Water Supplies Department (WSD) today (November 4) held a commissioning ceremony for the Butterfly Valley Fresh Water Primary Service Reservoir Extension and the Cherish Water Go Green Fun Fair to mark the completion and the first day of operation of the Reservoir's extension.

The extension of Tai Po Water Treatment Works (TPWTW) has testified to the efforts of the WSD in upgrading water supply facilities in order to enhance the reliability and flexibility of the water supply system. The extension of the Butterfly Valley Fresh Water Primary Service Reservoir is part of the TPWTW extension and the storage capacity of the Reservoir has been expanded from 40 000 cubic metres to 120 000 cu m under the extension. Upon the scheduled completion of the TPWTW extension by 2018, the fresh water supply of TPWTW will be expanded from its current coverage of Tai Po and Central Kowloon to include West Kowloon as well as Central and Western District of Hong Kong Island.

The WSD also held the Cherish Water Go Green Fun Fair today to promote water conservation. Winning students of the "Cherish Water Campus" Integrated Education Programme were invited to take part in a tree planting activity and a greening workshop to experience aspects of green living.

Officiating at the event, the Assistant Director of Water Supplies (New Works), Mr Luk Wai-hung, said, "The WSD spares no effort in constantly reviewing the existing water supply facilities and upgrading them when necessary to provide the community with a reliable and quality water supply. The department will also continue its efforts in stepping up public education and promotion on water saving and water conservation, particularly for the young generation."
