******************************************
The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Lau Kong-wah, visited Tuen Mun District today (November 4) to chat with local secondary school students about his successful experiences and learn more about the district's youth development programme. He also met with Tuen Mun District Council (TMDC) members to exchange views on district work.

Accompanied by Deputy Director of Home Affairs, Miss Charmaine Wong, and the District Officer (Tuen Mun), Ms Aubrey Fung, Mr Lau first attended the "Youth Talk" event under the "Strive for Success" Tuen Mun District Self-enhancement Training Programme and Award Scheme.

Jointly organised by the Tuen Mun District Youth Programme Committee and Tuen Mun District Office, the Strive for Success scheme aims to help youngsters build up a positive attitude towards life and broaden their perspective through learning, experience sharing and exchange activities. At the Youth Talk event, Mr Lau chatted with the former Mainland diving athlete and Olympic gold medalist, Ms Guo Jing-jing, and Cathay Dragon's Chief Executive Officer, Mr Algernon Yau. They shared aspects of their successful experiences with about 100 members of the scheme and advised them on how to better equip themselves and cope with future challenges.

Mr Lau then officiated at the opening ceremony of the Tuen Mun District Council Yan Oi Tong Youth Space (Youth Space) and toured its facilities, which include a training room, an interview room, and work and leisure areas.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr Lau said that the "Promotion of Youth Development in Tuen Mun" is one of the projects under the Signature Project Scheme (Tuen Mun). As part of the project, Youth Space provides a venue for youths to gather and participate in various kinds of workshops, district talks, social innovation learning events and skills training courses, thereby enabling them to help implement community innovation plans and build a better community.

Before concluding his visit, Mr Lau met with TMDC members to exchange views on various district issues.
