"Viva Africa" outdoor carnival to be held at Cultural Centre Piazza next Sunday (with photos)

     An outdoor carnival entitled "Viva Africa" will be held at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza next Sunday (November 5) from 2pm to 6pm, including entertaining live performances, African cultural displays, a photo exhibition and workshops. Members of the public are invited to come and experience this fiesta of African arts and cultures. Admission is free.

     Groups from various African countries will engage audiences with dynamic and colourful performances. Watoto Children's Choir from Uganda will sing energetic gospel songs, while Fusão D from Angola will perform popular samba and kurodo dancing. South African group Moving into Dance Mophatong will showcase African contemporary dance, while Tshegofatso Mhlongo will sing a medley of African songs. In addition, Fekat Circus (Ethiopia) will team up with Slum Drummers (Kenya) to present a pulsating acrobatic performance, and Dfeat (South Africa) will demonstrate graffiti art.

     Local line-ups include African drumming and dancing by university, secondary and primary school groups. Gregmel & Africana Band will play original African pop music, and Sebastião António and Evelyn Waletzki will lead other dancers in performing flash mob dance and Angolan kizomba (party) dance.
 
     As well as the above there will also be displays of African fashion and accessories, handicrafts, books and tourism and a photo exhibition. Members of the public will also be able to try African snacks, coffee, wine, beer and juice for free while joining workshops on juggling, percussion, African dance and singing.

     "Viva Africa" is an outdoor programme under the World Cultures Festival 2017 – Vibrant Africa organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
