******************************************************************
The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Joshua Law, today (October 24) visited the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) to meet with front-line staff of different positions to take a closer look at their daily work and challenges facing them.

Accompanied by the Permanent Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Thomas Chow, Mr Law first met with the Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene, Miss Vivian Lau, and the directorate staff to better understand the FEHD's efforts in promoting the food safety and environmental hygiene standards.

Mr Law then proceeded to gain an understanding of the daily operation of the Hawker Control Team and was briefed by Hawker Control Officer Grade staff on their duties in controlling street hawking activities and obstruction caused by shops, as well as deterring littering.

Mr Law also met staff of the Kowloon Duty Room to learn about the round-the-clock operation of the Dead Removal Team and the shift work arrangement of the front-line team members.

Later, Mr Law was given a demonstration on water seepage investigation. The FEHD and the Buildings Department have set up Joint Offices to centralise the handling of seepage complaints in flats. Staff of the Joint Offices will carry out non-destructive tests in a suspected flat unit when necessary to investigate the source of water seepage.

Before concluding his visit, Mr Law had a tea gathering with staff representatives of various grades of the FEHD to know more about the issues that concern them. He praised colleagues for their professional performance and encouraged them to continue to provide quality services to members of the public.
