Fatal traffic accident in Sham Shui Po

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Sham Shui Po last night (September 22) in which a 49-year-old man, a 72-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman died.
                            
     About 6.37pm, a taxi driven by a 55-year-old man and a bus driven by a 44-year-old man were travelling in sequence along Cheung Sha Wan Road towards Mong Kok. When approaching near Yen Chow Street, the taxi reportedly stopped due to traffic conditions but the bus failed to brake. The bus first crashed with the taxi and then crashed onto the pavement.
      
     In the accident, a 60-year-old woman was rescued from the upper deck of the bus and was certified dead at scene. A 49-year-old man and a 72-year-old man were trapped under the bus. They were sent to Princess Margaret Hospital and Caritas Medical Centre respectively and were later certified dead.
      
     On the other hand, 17 male and 12 female, aged 9 to 72, were injured and sent to Kwong Wah Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital and Caritas Medical Centre respectively.
      
     The bus driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death. He is being detained for enquiries.
      
     Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Kowloon West is underway.
