SCS visits Southern District (with photos)
******************************************
The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Joshua Law, today (September 19) visited Southern District, and met with members of Southern District Council (SDC) to gain a better understanding of community affairs. He also toured vocational training facilities and a social enterprise which offers catering training to people with disabilities.

Accompanied by Chairman of the SDC, Mr Chu Ching-hong, and District Officer (Southern), Mrs Dorothy Ma, Mr Law first met with SDC members to exchange views on developments and issues of concern in the district.

Mr Law then proceeded to the Hotel and Tourism Institute and the Chinese Culinary Institute in the VTC Pokfulam Complex to learn about the training facilities, including a demonstration kitchen and The T Hotel. He also chatted with students to know more about their learning experiences.

He was pleased to learn that the institutes offer a wide variety of professional programmes to young people to help them plan for their future according to their interests and capabilities. He encouraged the students to continue to work hard for their future.

Mr Law also went to Aberdeen Municipal Services Building and visited a cafe operated by Take A Break Catering Service, a social enterprise of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. The café provides the disabled with a wide range of catering training and employment opportunities to help them realise their full potential in different positions and strive for self-reliance.

After experiencing the catering services provided by the disabled employees of the café, Mr Law said their service standard showed that they had received good training and had developed confidence. He thanked the non-governmental organisations which are dedicated to operating social enterprises to enhance the employment of people with disabilities and help them integrate into society.
