SFH meets Mainland authorities (with photos)

     The Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Sophia Chan, today (August 31) met the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC), the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SATCM) in Beijing to boost mutual ties.

     Professor Chan first met with the Minister of the NHFPC, Ms Li Bin. During the meeting, Professor Chan talked about the work concerning strengthening antimicrobial resistance surveillance, prevention and control of communicable diseases, and tobacco control in Hong Kong.

     At the meeting with the Minister of the CFDA, Mr Bi Jingquan, Professor Chan noted that Hong Kong and the CFDA have maintained strong and close co-operation over the years. She also thanked the CFDA for supporting the development of the Chinese Medicines Testing Institute of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government and assisting the HKSAR Government to establish a herbarium on Chinese medicines.

     Professor Chan also met with the Vice-Commissioner of the SATCM, Mr Yu Wenming. The two sides had agreed to enhance exchanges in the area of developing the standards for Chinese Materia Medica and proprietary Chinese medicines as well as the relevant quality control research projects.

     The Permanent Secretary for Food and Health (Health), Ms Elizabeth Tse; the Director of Health, Dr Constance Chan; and the Chief Executive of the Hospital Authority, Dr Leung Pak-yin, accompanied Professor Chan to pay visits to the aforementioned Mainland authorities.
