The Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, concluded her visit to Beijing this evening (August 9).

Accompanied by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Edward Yau, Mrs Lam met with the Minister of Culture, Mr Luo Shugang, in the morning. She expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Culture for its staunch support for Hong Kong on the development of arts and culture, in particular, the large-scale events in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland. Both sides put forward at the meeting a number of proposals to deepen cultural co-operation and agreed to formulate and sign an agreement on specific items as soon as possible.

Mrs Lam, together with the Financial Secretary, Mr Paul Chan and Mr Yau, then met with the Chairman of the China National Tourism Administration, Mr Li Jinzao, and attended a lunch hosted by him. They exchanged views on the latest tourism market information in Hong Kong and the Mainland. Mrs Lam and Mr Li witnessed the signing of an Agreement on Further Enhancement of Tourism Co-operation between the Mainland and Hong Kong by Mr Yau, on behalf of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, and the Vice Chairman of the China National Tourism Administration, Mr Du Jiang. Building on the existing basis, the agreement aims to further strengthen exchange and co-operation.

In the afternoon, Mrs Lam and Mr Yau had a meeting with the Director of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, Mr Nie Chenxi. She thanked the organisation for its support for Hong Kong’s film industry and in the communications area, and expressed the hope that there would be more development opportunities for Hong Kong’s publishing and film industries in the Mainland.

Before concluding her visit to Beijing, Mrs Lam, along with Mr Chan and Mr Yau, called on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Wang Yi, and expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its assistance to Hong Kong residents in distress when they are abroad as well as its support over the years for the HKSAR Government in developing external relations for economic and social developments. She said that Hong Kong would continue to strive to enhance its status in the international arena.

Mrs Lam then met the media at the Beijing Office of the HKSAR Government before returning to Hong Kong.
