Spain's Kulunka Theatre Company to perform mask and mime show "André and Dorine"
********************************************************************************
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department's "From Puppets to Humans" Series will stage the poetic mask and mime theatre production "André and Dorine" by Kulunka Theatre Company from Spain in September.

"André and Dorine" explores important themes with warmth and humour. On stage, three actors present more than 15 characters without speaking, relying only on gestures and the use of masks. André and Dorine live just like many old couples do, slowly deteriorating from routine and neglect. However, the coming of Alzheimer's breaks the monotony, and so begins a fresh start in their relationship, a journey through memory. They need to remember who they were, so as not to forget who they are. They remember how they used to love, so that they can keep loving one another.

The production has been performed more than 400 times in 25 countries and regions in the past six years, including South America, the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia and the Mainland.

Kulunka Theatre Company was established in Spain in 2010, stemming from a desire to experiment with different possible stage languages and aiming to make theatre more accessible to the wide public and connect to reality. Its goal is to create a show without boundaries and find a language that thrills and entertains the audience. It relies on a theatre of gestures, using masks as a bridge to another world of endearing and poetic visuals. Its masks, with deep features, highly expressive and full of life, open the doors of imagination and reflect a universe in which everything is possible.

"André and Dorine" by Kulunka Theatre Company will be staged at 8pm on September 22 and 23 (Friday and Saturday) and at 3pm on September 24 (Sunday) at the Theatre of Sheung Wan Civic Centre. Tickets priced at $140, $180 and $240 are now available at URBTIX (www.urbtix.hk). For telephone credit card bookings, please call 2111 5999.
