Appointments to Cantonese Opera Development Fund Advisory Committee

     The Government today (August 3) announced the appointments to the Cantonese Opera Development Fund Advisory Committee for the period from August 1, 2017, to July 31, 2019.

     The membership of the new term of the Cantonese Opera Development Fund Advisory Committee is as follows:

     The Home Affairs Bureau looks forward to collaborating closely with members of the new term to further enhance the transmission and development of Cantonese opera, taking this world-class intangible cultural heritage to its next level.
 
     The Home Affairs Bureau thanked all members of the last term, especially the outgoing Chairman Dr Frankie Yeung Wai-shing and the four members Mr Cheng Kok-kong, Ms Kuk Man-yu, Dr Poon Po-chiu and Ms Tang Mi-ling for their contributions to the Committee. Under the leadership of Dr Yeung over the past six years, the Committee has contributed tremendously to the promotion, transmission, preservation, education, research and development of Cantonese opera.
 
     Established in 2005, the Cantonese Opera Development Fund aims to support projects and activities relating to research, promotion and sustainable development of Cantonese opera. Since its establishment, the Fund has approved about $90 million in support of more than 700 projects towards the development of Cantonese opera, including professional training and performances, education and promotion activities, research and publication, as well as cultural exchange.
