CE visits Singapore (with photos/videos)

After arriving in Singapore in the afternoon, Mrs Lam paid a courtesy call on the Chinese Ambassador to Singapore, Mr Chen Xiaodong, to thank him for offering consular assistance to Hong Kong people in need. She then visited the Asian Civilisations Museum which exihibits antiquities discovered on a Tang shipwreck, showing that trade between China and Southeast Asia has a long history.
Mrs Lam then officiated at the opening reception of the photo exhibition "Lee Fook Chee - Son of Singapore, Photographer of Hong Kong". Mrs Lam said the exhibition not only conveyed Mr Lee’s keen creative eye and interest in his subject, it also captured a time when Hong Kong was entering a period of huge post-war transformation. Mr Lee's photos from 1950s Hong Kong conveyed the "can-do" spirit of people who helped to build Hong Kong and the values of hard work, creativity and determination. Mr Lee, who was born in Singapore and finding his creative calling in Hong Kong, also echoed the strong bonds between the people of Singapore and Hong Kong through his life and artwork.
Accompanied by the Minister for Culture, Community and Youth of Singapore, Ms Grace Fu, Mrs Lam toured the National Gallery Singapore in the evening. Transformed from two national monuments, the former Supreme Court and the City Hall, the Gallery oversees the largest public collection of modern art in Singapore and Southeast Asia. After the visit, Mrs Lam attended a dinner hosted by Ms Fu at the gallery.
Mrs Lam will continue her visit to Singapore tomorrow.
