Office of The Ombudsman holds seminar on MPF System (with photo)
****************************************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Office of The Ombudsman:

The Office of The Ombudsman today (June 14) held a seminar entitled "Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) System" with more than 60 Justices of the Peace (JPs) and Advisers of the Office present. Participants exchanged views with representatives from the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) on the challenges faced by the MPF System in recent years, its major reforms, and the MPFA's complaint handling procedures.

In her speech, The Ombudsman, Ms Connie Lau, said, "Like other large cities in the world, Hong Kong is facing the problem of an ageing population, and people have a rising awareness of the need to plan ahead for retirement and save for a rainy day. It is, therefore, important to study ways to enhance the MPF System as a form of retirement protection." Ms Lau urged the MPFA to consider the opinions and suggestions raised at the seminar, and actively communicate with stakeholders in an effort to further improve the MPF System.

Since 2010, the Office of The Ombudsman has organised seminars each year on various topics for JPs and Advisers of the Office. These seminars aim to enhance their understanding of the work of different government departments/public organisations and the role of the Office, and provide them with a platform to express their views so that they can help promote the work of the Office through their daily contacts with the public, thereby contributing to improvement in public administration and services in Hong Kong.
