*************************************************************************
The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, joined the discussion session themed "Toward an APEC Post 2020 Vision" on the second day of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministers Responsible for Trade (MRT) Meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam today (May 21).

Mr So said the "Multi-stakeholder Dialogue on APEC Toward 2020 and Beyond" held on May 16 with the engagement of stakeholders including APEC member economies, APEC Business Advisory Council and Pacific Economic Cooperation Council. helped broaden the horizon for stimulating ideas or thought on the future vision for a sustainable and more inclusive growth in the region.

He pointed out that co-operation through a multilateral framework that evolves to meet the changing needs of the global economy benefits every economy, adding that co-ordinated actions across economies to boost growth foster synergies. As APEC will enter into 30th anniversary in 2019, Mr So said it is important to start charting out the vision and path to further roll out APEC beyond 2020.

Before the conclusion of the MRT Meeting, participating ministers endorsed the Chairman's Statement which reaffirmed APEC member economies' commitment to promote trade and investment liberalisation and facilitation and strengthened economic and technical co-operation to achieve the common goals of development, growth and prosperity.

On the margins, Mr So held bilateral meetings with the Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, Mr Maksim Oreshkin; the Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry of the Philippines, Mr Ramon Lopez; and the Vice Minister of Commerce of Thailand, Mr Winichai Chaemchaeng, in the afternoon to discuss trade and economic co-operation.
