Transcript of remarks by SLW
****************************
Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Stephen Sui, before attending a briefing session on Mandatory Provident Fund offsetting mechanism organised by The Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions tonight (March 30):

Reporter: (Regarding the work accident in Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge project – Hong Kong Link Road) Are there sufficient measures to guarantee the safety of all the workers for now? Incidents have occurred again and again. Do you think there's a loophole from the current instruction?

Secretary for Labour and Welfare: We have grave concerns towards the recurrence of such incidents. Actually, the Labour Department has attached great importance in this respect, especially in terms of the industrial accidents involving the construction industry. The Commissioner of Labour has recently contacted the industry and discussed with them the measures in strengthening occupational safety, and is actively considering launching a campaign to raise the awareness of the industry in terms of occupational safety especially about working at height in the construction industry.
