Appointments to Advisory Council on Food and Environmental Hygiene announced

The Government today (March 24) announced that the Chief Executive has re-appointed Professor Lo Yuk-lam as the Chairman of the Advisory Council on Food and Environmental Hygiene. At the same time, 15 serving members have been re-appointed and one new member has been appointed to the Council. The term of appointments will be from April 1, 2017, to March 31, 2019.

Professor Lo, an expert in the field of biotechnology, has been serving on the Council as Chairman since 2015. The newly appointed member, Mr Richard Tsang Lap-ki, is the Chairman of the Strategic Public Relations Group.

The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, welcomed the re-appointments and new appointment.

"In the past few years, the Council has provided valuable advice to the Government on a wide range of important issues including food incidents, anti-mosquito measures, the promotion of green burial and the way forward of live poultry trade in Hong Kong, as well as the legislative proposal on nutrition and health claims on infant formula," Dr Ko said.

Dr Ko also expressed gratitude to the outgoing member, Mrs Sandra Mak Wong Siu-chun, for her valuable contribution to the work of the Council in the past six years.

The Council is a non-statutory body established on April 1, 2000, to advise the Government on food and environmental hygiene issues. The Council comprises a Chairman, 16 non-official members and four ex-officio members.
