Director of Fire Services deeply grieved by death of Principal Fireman Mr Yau Siu-ming (with photo)

     The Director of Fire Services, Mr Li Kin-yat, is deeply grieved by the death of Principal Fireman Mr Yau Siu-ming, who passed away after sustaining injuries in a rescue operation today (March 22).

     Mr Yau, aged 50, was attached in Tin Sum Fire Station. He sustained serious injuries while attending a mountain rescue operation at Ma On Shan. He was rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital in a coma and passed away at 4.17pm today. He is survived by his wife and a son.

     "I am profoundly grieved at the loss of this dedicated and gallant Principal Fireman. All of our colleagues are deeply saddened by the loss of such a devoted comrade. On behalf of all our colleagues, I have offered the deepest condolences to his family," Mr Li said.

     "Our Welfare Officer is closely liaising with Mr Yau's family and will render our utmost assistance to help them through this sad and difficult time. The Fire Services Department (FSD) will set up a funeral committee to make arrangements for Mr Yau's funeral."

     Principal Fireman Mr Yau Siu-ming joined the FSD in January 1987 as a Fireman and was promoted to Principal Fireman in April 2010.
