Hong Kong Flower Show to open tomorrow at Victoria Park (with photos)
*********************************************************************
More than 350 000 flowers, including about 40 000 roses, will transform Victoria Park into a colourful wonderland throughout the show period.
Over 240 organisations from 17 countries, namely Australia, China, Estonia, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States, will showcase exotic flowers, landscapes and floral art displays.
As one of the events celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the flower show will include a floral display of a birthday cake to symbolise a time for celebration.
One of the highlights of the flower show will be the "Blossoms of Love" light show running daily at 7.30pm and 8.30pm under the themes "Amazing Journey", "Garden of Love" and "Vibrant Hong Kong". The light show, which will be accompanied by synchronised music, will be shown at the floral displays along the central axis of the showground to create a harmonious atmosphere.
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will present a spectacular exhibit entitled "Magnificent True Love", with a sculptural centrepiece of four roses showcasing the theme flower in all its romance, grandeur and beauty. The four coffee cups sitting around the rose sculpture will be decorated with different adornments, including a pair of cuddling lovebirds and a happy family that symbolise romantic love and kinship affection respectively.
There will also be an impressive tulip display with around 14 000 flowers in a variety of colours, while a mosaiculture display, "Park Fun", will recreate traditional rides in plant sculptures to bring back happy memories.
Other main attractions will include a corner displaying special varieties of rose and edible plants, as well as floral walls featuring Brand Hong Kong and the 6th Hong Kong Games, and more. A maze garden and a floral marquee will be set up on the park's lawns. The floral marquee filled the exhibits will add ambience to the coffee corner with music performances.
A rich diversity of educational and recreational fringe activities will be held for the enjoyment of visitors of all ages including music and cultural performances, floral art demonstrations, green activities workshops, green stalls, guided visits, recreation programmes and fun games.
The flower show will be held from 9am to 9pm daily (opening hours on March 11, 17 and 18 will be extended to 10pm). Admission tickets will be sold at the entrances to the Victoria Park showground throughout the show period. Octopus can also be used to pay for admission. Tickets are also available for sale at the LCSD's District Leisure Services Offices until March 17.
