UK secondary school students offered chance to win place at university summer school in Hong Kong
******************************************************************************************
     The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London announced today (March 8, London time) that it has launched a Student Competition with the title "Hong Kong: A dream vacation destination for youth travellers!".  The objective of the annual Competition, which is being held for the sixth time, is to enable British students to experience Hong Kong's vibrancy and major tourist attractions, as well as to consider pursuing tertiary education in Hong Kong.

     The Competition offers UK sixth form secondary school students the chance to win a free trip to Hong Kong to attend a summer school programme at a Hong Kong university and have a genuine taste of the university campus life. Sponsored by Cathay Pacific Airways and supported by the British Council and the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the Competition has the participation of four key universities in Hong Kong.

     To join the Competition, students are invited to design a 48-hour travel itinerary for youth travellers visiting Hong Kong. The project should show how Hong Kong is unique and attractive to youth travellers. Students are also expected to compare the travel experiences of Hong Kong and a UK city. Entries can be presented in any format - as an essay, for example, or through social media such as in a video clip on YouTube or a post in a blog. Five winners will be selected and entries will be judged based on content, creativity and presentation.

     To be eligible for the competition, a contestant must be:
  • a British citizen holding a UK passport and without right of abode or the right to land in Hong Kong;
  • in sixth form (Grade 12 or Grade 13) and studying full-time at a secondary school in the UK;
  • able to speak fluent English;
  • given the consent to participate in the Competition by his or her parent or legal guardian; and
  • able to support himself or herself financially whilst in Hong Kong.

     The Competition is open to receive entries and the deadline for application is April 14.
