Fatal traffic accident in Tsing Yi

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Tsing Yi this afternoon (February 20) in which a 44-year-old man died.

     About 2pm, a forklift truck driven by a 35-year-old man was travelling inside a depot on Container Port Road South. It reportedly hit a stationary light goods vehicle and a 44-year-old man who was working nearby.

     The 44-year-old man was trapped under the forklift truck. Sustaining serious abdomen injuries, the man was rushed to Princess Margaret Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 2.41pm.

     The forklift truck driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death, driving an unlicensed vehicle and driving without third party insurance. The 32-year-old male person in charge of the depot was also arrested for permitting other person to drive an unlicensed vehicle and permitting other person to drive without third party insurance. The arrested men were released on bail pending further enquiries and are required to report back to Police in mid-March.

     Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories South is under way.
