HK SciFest 2017 explores fun of science (with photos)

     ​This year's edition of the annual integrated science programme HK SciFest opened today (February 18) and will run until April 23. Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and organised by the Hong Kong Science Museum in collaboration with 42 partners, the festival offers over 170 science exploration activities to encourage public interest in science and technology.

     Speaking at today's opening ceremony at the Hong Kong Science Museum, the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services , Ms Michelle Li, said the HK SciFest has been held annually since 2014 with a mission of promoting popular science, and allowing the public to learn about the close relationship between science and human being. The Festival also aims to arouse the passion of the public towards science and encourage everyone to explore and have fun in science through a wide variety of activities.

     Other officiating guests at today's opening ceremony included the Chairman of the Museum Advisory Committee, Mr Stanley Wong; the Museum Director of the Hong Kong Science Museum, Ms Karen Sit, and representatives of the programme partners.

     The HK SciFest offers a wide array of activities including field visits, science competitions, family days, science drama shows, fun experiment classes, science game booths, science workshops, exhibitions, guided tours, lectures and science film shows, and covers popular topics including life science, chemistry, physics, engineering, astronomy and environmental conservation. The event aims to encourage everyone to explore and have fun in science. 

     ​HK SciFest 2017 has also organised a series of "Medicine and Health" thematic programmes that will take participants to visit the Lui Seng Chun and Taipingshan Medical Heritage Trail and trace the development of Chinese and Western medicines in Hong Kong. Participants will also have opportunities to visit the medical facilities of three local universities. It is hoped that the public can learn more about the scientific concepts behind Western and Chinese medicines and their latest development, and recognise the contributions of medical research and disease treatment to our health.
