*********************************************************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Executive Council Secretariat:

The Non-official Members of the Executive Council (ExCo Members) today (February 6) visited the Fire and Ambulance Services Academy (FASA) in Tseung Kwan O to learn about its training facilities and the training conditions for Fire Services Department (FSD) personnel.

In the company of the Director of Fire Services, Mr Li Kin-yat, the ExCo Members first visited FASA's simulation training facilities and watched simulated demonstrations of rescue operations in different settings including a railway station, fuel tank, a vessel fire and urban search and rescue. The simulation training facilities can enhance the professional knowledge of FSD personnel as well as their rescue techniques for tackling large-scale incidents.

The ExCo Members then inspected the Academy's dormitory, which provides over 500 residential training places. They talked with fire and ambulance personnel to learn about their training process and experience. The ExCo Members also visited the ambulance services training area to watch ambulancemen demonstrating paramedic skills. They later visited the teaching block and the Fire and Ambulance Services Education Centre cum Museum.

Appreciating its advanced and well-equipped facilities, the ExCo Members said that the FASA provides FSD personnel with comprehensive and diversified training as well as opportunities to learn from each other. The ExCo Members also said they take pride in Hong Kong's fire brigade and ambulance service which is well-trained, professional and selfless, and hoped that they would continue to provide a high-quality service for the public in their pursuit of excellence.

Non-official Members joining the visit today were Convenor Mr Lam Woon-kwong, Mr Cheng Yiu-tong, Professor Arthur Li, Mr Chow Chung-kong, Mr Cheung Chi-kong and Mr Jeffrey Lam.

Opened in 2016 and covering an area of 158 000 square metres, the FASA provides state-of-the-art simulation training facilities which offer not only comprehensive training for both newly recruited and serving fire and ambulance personnel, but also professional firefighting and ambulance courses for other government departments and overseas counterparts.
