CoY contemplates future direction of youth development policy in Hong Kong
**************************************************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Commission on Youth:

The Chairman of the Commission on Youth (CoY), Mr Lau Ming-wai, today (January 19) expressed gratitude for the Government's invitation to shoulder the responsibility to work together with the relevant policy bureaux, young people and other stakeholders involved in youth development work to jointly contemplate the future direction of youth development policy in Hong Kong.

Mr Lau said, "I understand that young people at present face more and more challenges. All CoY members and myself will make every effort to liaise closely and have frank exchanges with young people and other stakeholders involved in youth development work in order to complete the task."

Mr Lau added that the Government has recently issued a booklet, entitled "Youth Development Work of the Current-term Government", which gives young people and other stakeholders a better understanding of the Government's work in youth development in the past few years. With the aim of enabling young people to better equip themselves and broaden their horizons, the CoY will continue to organise overseas exchange activities, provide more opportunities for youth exchange and internship in the Mainland and strengthen liaison with young people, district organisations, student bodies and voluntary agencies to co-ordinate various kinds of activities suitable for youth development.

The CoY was established in February 1990 and is comprised of young people, social workers, education workers, youth representatives in the business sector, incumbents of youth groups and representatives of government bureaux and departments. The CoY's vision is to foster a culture of multi-faceted excellence, and to nurture young people as future masters of Hong Kong with vision, creativity, leadership and commitment.
