Appointments to Women's Commission

     The Government today (January 14) announced the appointment of five new members and re-appointment of eight incumbent members to the Women's Commission (WoC) for a term of two years with effect from January 15, 2017.

     The five new members are Ms Chan Yuen-han, Ms Susanna Chiu Lai-kuen, Mrs Emily Tim-yi Lam Ho, Dr Kevin Lau Chung-hang and Ms Elaine Lo Yuen-man.

     Ms Chan Yuen-han was a veteran member of the Legislative Council and District Councils. She has rich experience in the public sector.

     Ms Susanna Chiu Lai-kuen is an accountant by profession. She is currently the Director of Li & Fung Development (China) Limited. She was the first female President of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She has extensive involvement in public services.

     Mrs Emily Tim-yi Lam Ho is currently the Director of Business Development of the Sing Tao News Corporation. Before joining the media industry, she worked in the financial sector and participated actively in a number of charities.

     Dr Kevin Lau Chung-hang is currently a specialist in radiology in private practice in Hong Kong. He has been actively involved in children's development work.

     Ms Elaine Lo Yuen-man is a solicitor by profession and is currently the Head of Mayer Brown JSM's China Practice. Ms Lo was the Asia Chair and Senior Partner of Mayer Brown JSM from 2008 to 2016. She has been serving on a number of advisory and statutory bodies and has extensive experience in the public services as well as the legal field.

     The eight re-appointed incumbent members are Professor Cecilia Chan Lai-wan, Ms Aruna Gurung, Ms Juan Leung Chung-yan, Ms Yolanda Ng Yuen-ting, Mr Philip Tsai Wing-chung, Ms Wong Siu-wah, Ms Yvonne Yeung Kin-ha and Ms Rabi Yim Chor-pik.

     The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, welcomed the appointments and re-appointments. He said, "Coming from a diverse background, the newly appointed and re-appointed members have vast experience in their professions and community services. I look forward to their expert advice on the work of the WoC which would continue to make valuable contribution to the promotion of the interests and well-being of women in Hong Kong."

     Mr Cheung thanked the five outgoing members, Dr Maggie Koong May-kay, Dr Trisha Leahy, Ms Sandy Wong Hang-yee, Ms Catherine Wong Pui-yee and Mr Robert Wong Yao-wing for their sterling contributions and dedication to the work of the WoC in the past years.

     The WoC was set up on January 15, 2001, as a central mechanism to promote the well-being and interests of women in Hong Kong. It plays a strategic role in advising the Government on policies and initiatives on women's issues.
