FarmFest 2017 opens at Fa Hui Park in Mong Kok (with photos)
************************************************************
The four-day FarmFest 2017 is being held at Fa Hui Park in Mong Kok from today (December 30) to January 2, 2017, to showcase a wide variety of local agricultural and fisheries products and other related goods.

With more than 370 stalls, FarmFest is the largest outdoor farmers' market in Hong Kong. Among them, some 200 booths offer premium local produce, such as fresh organic fruits and vegetables, chilled fish, dried seafood and ornamental plants, for sale. Booths selling local delicacies, kitchenware, household goods and eco-friendly products are also available.

Premium local produce is always well received by consumers. In view of the market demand, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) has been actively supporting the local agricultural and fisheries sectors to enhance product quality in recent years, so as to facilitate further development of the industry.

To enable consumers to learn more about the production of premium produce, exhibitions at FarmFest feature technologies introduced by the AFCD for local adoption, such as crop variety selection, greenhouse cultivation, multi-functional rotavators, automatic seedling system, post-harvesting management and product quality measurement for crop farming, and hi-tech aquaculture system for fish farming. There are also demonstrations of measuring the sweetness of corn with testing equipment.

With a mock-up modern multi-span greenhouse as the centrepiece of its design, reflecting the exhibition's theme of agricultural technology, the market street lined with traditional shops selling local delicacies is another attraction of FarmFest.

FarmFest is offering various fringe activities such as cultural performances, talks and cooking demonstrations for the enjoyment of people of all ages. Admission is free. There is a free shuttle bus service every 15 minutes from Shek Kip Mei MTR Station Exit B1 located at Woh Chai Street.

The event is jointly organised by the AFCD, the Vegetable Marketing Organization and the Fish Marketing Organization. For details, please visit the dedicated website of FarmFest (www.farmfest.hk).
