LegCo Members visit historic tenement remains in Central (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:
     
     The Legislative Council (LegCo) Members conducted a site visit to Cochrane Street and Gutzlaff Street, Central today (December 29) to follow up on a complaint about the proposal put forth by the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) for dismantling and partially reassembling the historic tenement remains (the tenement remains) on the site, as well as the proposal of the Antiquities and Monuments Office (AMO) for not giving any grading in the heritage assessment for the aforesaid remains.
      
     Accompanied by representatives of the Development Bureau, URA and AMO, Members observed the tenement remains between Cochrane Street and Gutzlaff Street, and received briefings on the historical background and the conservation proposal of the tenement remains by the parties concerned.  Members took the opportunity to see for themselves the condition of the tenement remains and to learn of the heritage value of the tenement remains.
           
     Members who participated in the visit are the LegCo Redress System Duty Roster Member, Mr Chung Kwok-pan (Convenor), and the invited Member, Ms Tanya Chan.
