Screening facilities at North District Town Hall commence operation (with photos)
*********************************************************************************
The Commerce and Economic Development Bureau, together with the Home Affairs Bureau, put forth a plan to install screening facilities at the auditorium of North District Town Hall, with a view to promoting film culture through encouraging movie-going and participation in related activities among residents.

Speaking at the launching of the facilities today (December 9), the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, said that installation of screening facilities at North District Town Hall has made it convenient for residents of North District to watch movies in their own district and was a bold move by the Government.

He noted that provision of screening facilities will allow for film screening activities by different organisations and promote movie-going in the community, in particular among students and young people. This will help enhance appreciation of films among movie-goers, which is conducive to the development of Hong Kong's film industry in the long run.

There are more than 400 seats at the auditorium of North District Town Hall. Related alteration works began in September and were completed this month.

To tie in with the launching of the screening facilities, Create Hong Kong and the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society will jointly present a film screening programme, "Cine-rama@North District Town Hall", from this month onwards. "Cine-rama@North District Town Hall" will run for about a year and half, with free screenings of classic and quality movies in different genres as well as post-screening talks to enhance understanding of film culture among movie-goers.
