SCED to visit Switzerland and Ireland

     The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, will leave Hong Kong on Saturday (December 3) for duty visits to Geneva and Bern in Switzerland and Dublin in Ireland from December 3 to 7. During his visits, Mr So will attend the Environmental Goods Agreement (EGA) Ministerial Meeting in Geneva and meet with trade counterparts in Dublin to strengthen Hong Kong's bilateral ties with Ireland.

     Mr So will attend the EGA Ministerial Meeting on December 3 and 4 (Geneva time) after his arrival in Geneva. Hong Kong is among the World Trade Organization members participating in the negotiation for the EGA, which aims at eliminating tariffs on a wide range of environmental goods. The meeting aims to conclude the EGA by resolving important outstanding issues including product coverage and staging for tariff cuts.

     On December 5, Mr So will visit Bern to call on the Chinese Embassy in Switzerland. He will then proceed to Ireland on December 6.

     Mr So will visit the Chinese Embassy in Ireland upon arrival in Dublin on December 6 (Dublin time). He will also meet with senior government officials of Ireland, representatives of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce and the Hong Kong community in Dublin on December 7.

     Mr So will return to Hong Kong on December 8. The Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Godfrey Leung, will be the Acting Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development during Mr So's absence.
