CE appoints Tommy Cheung and Martin Liao as ExCo members

     The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, announced today (November 25) the appointment of Mr Tommy Cheung and Mr Martin Liao to the Executive Council (ExCo), with immediate effect.

     The Chief Executive said, "Mr Cheung and Mr Liao have rich experience in the Legislative Council and public service, and have made significant contributions to their respective sectors. I am confident that they will offer valuable advice and effectively fulfil the role of assisting policymaking after joining ExCo."

     Following is the biographical note of Mr Cheung:

     Aged 67. Mr Cheung is currently a Legislative Council member, Chairman of the Liberal Party, member of the Housing Authority and Council Member of the Chinese University of Hong Kong as well as the Chairman of the Hong Kong Catering Industry Association and Honorary Life President of the Association of Restaurant Managers. He used to serve as a member of the Eastern District Council, the Liquor Licensing Board, the Business Facilitation Advisory Committee and the Advisory Committee on Admission of Quality Migrants and Professionals. Mr Cheung was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star in 2015.

     Following is the biographical note of Mr Liao:

     Aged 59. Mr Liao is currently a Legislative Council member, Deputy to the National People's Congress and Chairman of the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing (Financial Institutions) Review Tribunal. He used to serve as a Temporary Judge of the District Court of Hong Kong, Chairman of the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications, Council Member of the University of Hong Kong, Council Member of the Hong Kong Bar Association, Member of the Copyright Tribunal and Part-time Member of the Central Policy Unit. Mr Liao was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star in 2014.
