The Buildings Department (BD) today (November 19) held a prize presentation ceremony for the "Building Safety Depends on All of Us" Comic Drawing Competition 2016 cum Building Safety Week 2016 Drama Competition (Play-off) at the Building Information Centre on 13/F, Pioneer Centre, Mong Kok, to recognise the outstanding performance of the participating students.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Director of Buildings, Mr Hui Siu-wai, said the comic drawing and drama competitions were the highlights of Building Safety Week 2016. The competitions aimed to enhance youngsters' awareness and sense of responsibility towards the living environment. The competitions also aroused their interest in building-related professions.

Awards were presented at the ceremony to winners of the two competitions. To add extra fun to the event, winners of the two competitions were invited to jointly present the concept of the comic drawing winning entries through drama performances at the ceremony. The Grand Award was given to the group with the best performance.

In the drama competition (play-off) which ran from April to June this year, participating teams from a number of schools disseminated building safety messages through drama performances on the campus. Their performances were filmed and the videos of their performances were submitted to a judging panel for assessment. The winning teams were invited to today's ceremony.

The comic drawing competition targeted primary and secondary school students. Over 50 primary and secondary schools joined the competition which ran from April to late June this year. A building safety concepts and comic skills workshop organised by the BD was arranged for the participants during the period. Participants learnt more about building safety concepts and comic skills from BD representatives and well-known comic illustrator Peter Ng.

Nearly 950 pieces of artwork were received this year. The results of the competition have been uploaded onto the Hong Kong Education City website: www.hkedcity.net/buildingsafetycomic/en/result.

The winning entries will be displayed at Sha Tin Town Hall and Kowloon Park in January and March 2017 respectively. For more details, please visit the BD's Facebook page (www.facebook.com/BDBSExpress).

Three animated short films featuring the top entries of the three sections of the comic drawing contest have been uploaded onto the BD YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/user/BDGOVHK) for public enjoyment.
