SFH on organ donation and passage of bills
******************************************
Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, after attending the Carnival to celebrate the first Organ Donation Day and the eighth anniversary of the launching of the Centralised Organ Donation Register today (November 12):

Reporter: (On organ donation)

Secretary for Food and Health: Since April this year, we have doubled our efforts in promoting organ donation. There have been hundreds of organisations, including non-government organisations, professional organisations, patient groups, as well as commercial organisations, joining in a row. I think we have seen initial good response because since then more than 40 000 to 50 000 citizens have signed up (the Centralised Organ Donation Register) already. I think the road is still long and we have to continue our efforts.

Reporter: (On whether SFH is concerned about the passing of the Private Columbaria Bill be affected by the operation of the Legislative Council (LegCo))

Secretary for Food and Health: Although generally I am quite concerned about the operation of the LegCo, we have already seen some signs that the Council has nearly been back to a normal track as some LegCo panels and the Council itself have conducted certain meetings already. I hope this trend will continue enabling the function of the LegCo be returned to a fully normal state.
