SCS commends 100 civil servants (with photos)
*********************************************
The Secretary for the Civil Service (SCS), Mr Clement Cheung, today (November 3) commended 100 civil servants at the SCS' Commendation Awards Presentation Ceremony. The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, extended his congratulations to the award recipients and shared their joy at the cocktail reception held after the ceremony.

The 100 awardees under this year's SCS' Commendation Award Scheme come from 38 bureaux and departments, 51 grades and 58 ranks.

Mr Cheung said that competition was very keen as there were only around 80 award recipients under the SCS' Commendation Award Scheme each year. He said that the Civil Service Bureau has increased the number of awardees to 100 starting from this year so that the achievements of more civil servants can be recognised.

Mr Cheung said that the civil service team, which is highly efficient, clean and professional, is the cornerstone of Hong Kong's long-term stability and prosperity. As the rising public expectations together with changes in the environment of the society have brought about much pressure, there is a need to commend outstanding civil servants to make them role models so as to promote a corporate culture that strives for excellence.

Talking about the similarities of the award recipients, he said that apart from being proactive and liberal, they stand ready to meet with challenges and difficulties and spare no efforts to serve the community. Such enthusiasm and perseverance are exemplary, he added.

The SCS' Commendation Award Scheme was introduced in 2004 to commend colleagues who have achieved outstanding work performance continuously for at least five years. The Scheme has a meticulous selection process which requires nominations from Permanent Secretaries, departmental heads or heads of grades, and is adjudicated by a committee appointed by the SCS.

This is the 13th presentation ceremony for the scheme since its launch. Up to now, more than 1,000 civil servants have been awarded the commendation.
