Transcript of remarks by LegCo President on attempt to storm into Conference Room and injury of security staff
******************************************************************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

Following is the transcript of remarks by the President of the Legislative Council (LegCo), Mr Andrew Leung, on an attempt to storm into Conference Room 1 of the LegCo Complex and the injury of security staff of the LegCo Secretariat, at a media briefing at the LegCo Complex today (November 2):

Mr Leung (Chung-hang) and Miss Yau (Wai-ching) who brought along more than 10 persons attempted to storm into Conference Room 1 today. Our security staff made their best effort to stop them in order to execute my previous order that the two Members should not attend the Council meeting.  Mr Leung, Miss Yau and the fellows insulted and bumped against our security staff. So far, six security staff injured and all of them were admitted to hospital.

I strongly condemn their violent action.

As the situation became out of control, I, as the Chairman of the LegCo Commission, instructed the Secretariat to request assistance of the Police, and to maintain order.

This decision was made after discussion with the Deputy Chairman of the Commission, Hon Starry Lee. Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairman of House Committee, Hon Dennis Kwok was informed of this arrangement. I urge the Police to take follow up actions decisively.

For safety reason, I also adjourned the meeting today.

I will bring the issue to the LegCo Commission to enhance the security measures during the LegCo meetings, and to ensure the safety of the staff of the Secretariat.

I wish to express my appreciation for the dedication and diligence of our security staff.
