Sha Tin Town Hall celebrates 30th anniversary (with photos)
***********************************************************
STTH came into service in January 1987. Over the past 30 years, STTH has strived to keep abreast of the times through facility improvement and enhancement. This year, renovation of the building exterior of STTH was completed and thematic artworks were installed at the Plaza, including a set of "C.art" installations and floral decorations. Inspired by the agricultural history of Sha Tin and the handcars on railroads in the old days, the carts can be flexibly assembled into a bigger platform or separately installed at different corners for passers-by to sit down and relax. Together with the creative works at the City Art Square at the outdoor space of STTH, the Plaza area offers the public a versatile public space for enjoying art.
Since its opening, STTH has staged more than 15 000 performances by outstanding arts groups and artists from Hong Kong and beyond. Various celebration performances will be held from this month onwards. Visiting programmes include "superposition" by Ryoji Ikeda (Japan), "The Boy Who Bit Picasso" by Untied Artists (UK) and "Crested Ibises" by Shanghai Dance Theatre. Among the local programmes are "Monkey Man" by STTH venue partner the Radiant Theatre and the Sha Tin Cantonese Opera Fun Day and Cantonese Opera Stars Extravaganza by the Cantonese Opera Advancement Association, which is also a venue partner of STTH.
