Friends of EcoPark scheme commends partners of EcoPark tenants for supporting local recycling industry (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) today (November 1) held the 6th Friends of EcoPark Award Presentation Ceremony to honour over 100 organisations from both the public and private sectors in recognition of their support for EcoPark tenants and to encourage further collaboration to enhance the local recycling industry.

Officiating at the award presentation ceremony, the Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, said that apart from reducing waste at source, recycling is also one of the keys to sustainable waste management. He added that support from different sectors of the community is also required to promote the development of the local recycling industry. He thanked all the awardees for their support for EcoPark tenants and called on them to continue their efforts to go green at work.

Launched by the EPD in 2010, the Friends of EcoPark scheme aims to help EcoPark tenants extend their waste sourcing and collection network and promote their recycled products by fostering partnership between the private and public sectors and EcoPark tenants. The number of participating companies and organisations has been increasing, and the awarded companies and organisations comprise a wide range of businesses in sectors including hotels, catering, engineering, logistics, retail, cleansing and property management, as well as a number of organisations from the public sector.

The EPD will continue to encourage more partnership initiatives between enterprises and tenants through the scheme to promote the sustainable development of their recycling operations. For more information about the Friends of EcoPark scheme or collaboration opportunities with EcoPark tenants, please visit the EcoPark's website at www.ecopark.com.hk or call its hotline on 2496 7633.

Also officiating at today's ceremony were the Chairman of the Legislative Council Panel on Environmental Affairs (EA Panel), Ms  Tanya Chan; the Deputy Chairman of the EA Panel, Dr Junius Ho; the Chairperson of the Advisory Committee on Recycling Fund, Mr Jimmy Kwok; and the Permanent Secretary for the Environment/Director of Environmental Protection, Mr Donald Tong.
