Ling Lung Cantonese Opera Troupe to perform selected works of Yuen May in December
**********************************************************************************
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present the “Selected Works of Yuen May”, to be performed by the Ling Lung Cantonese Opera Troupe, in December. The main cast comprises Huang Weikun, Tang Mi-ling, Leung Wai-hong, Lai Yiu-wai, Ko Lai and Sun Kim-long for the three shows.

Yuen May began writing Cantonese pop song lyrics in the 1970s. She has collaborated with numerous prominent singers and recorded a number of Gold Albums. She subsequently turned her interests to composing Cantonese operatic songs and Cantonese opera, working with Cantonese opera stars such as Fong Yim-fun, Man Chin-shui, Leung Hon-wai, Chan Kim-sing, Wan Fai-yin and Chung Lai-yung.

The performances are “A Regretful Story in the Tang Palace”, “The Blindness of Li Xian” and “The Affair between Lü Bu the Hero and Diao Chan the Beauty”.

“A Regretful Story in the Tang Palace” follows the sad but beautiful love story of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang and Consort Yang. The story has stood the test of time and its theatrical form is still frequently produced. One of the most well-known sequences is depicted through the poem “The Song of Everlasting Regret” by Bai Juyi. The lines celebrating true love, “High up in the sky, we would be lovebirds; On earth, we would be intertwined vines”, have become timeless. “A Regretful Story in the Tang Palace” will be staged at 2.30pm on December 27 (Tuesday) at the Auditorium of Yuen Long Theatre. Tickets are priced at $100, $180 and $260.

“The Blindness of Li Xian” has two themes, focusing first on the virtues and the faithfulness of courtesan Li Xian. The highly educational story then encourages those who have done wrong to repent, and suggests that diligence and hard work will become the seeds of success. “The Blindness of Li Xian” will be staged at 7.30pm on December 29 (Thursday) at the Auditorium of Tsuen Wan Town Hall. Tickets are priced at $100, $160, $200 and $280.

“The Affair between Lü Bu the Hero and Diao Chan the Beauty” tells the story of how the witty lady Diao Chan is manipulated by politics. The performance will be staged at 7.30pm on December 31 (Saturday) at the Auditorium of Tai Po Civic Centre. Tickets are priced at $100, $160 and $220.

Tickets are now available at URBTIX (www.urbtix.hk). For telephone credit card bookings, please call 2111 5999.
