Operational event at Ling Ao Nuclear Power Station
**************************************************
An operational event at Ling Ao Nuclear Power Station (LNPS) was reported today (October 24) on the website of Daya Bay Nuclear Power Operations and Management Co Ltd (DNMC), a spokesperson for the Security Bureau said today.

On October 22, Ling Ao Nuclear Power Station Unit 2 was undergoing its planned outage activities. Station staff identified a small fluctuation in the water temperature measurement of the spent fuel pool during a periodic test, and immediately suspended the test and activated an alternative, duplicate cooling system. Subsequent inspection indicated that two valves at the initial cooling system were closed. Station staff immediately re-opened those valves. Measurements indicated that pool water temperature had remained normal and at a safe level. All operating parameters of the station remained normal throughout the event, which did not have any effect on the staff, the plant or the environment.

The event was classified as a "Below Scale Licensing Operational Event" (i.e. "Level 0" event) on the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale, and has no effect on the safe operation of the nuclear power station, the health of the workers, the nearby public or the environment. All nuclear generating units at the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Site remain in normal and stable operation.

The DNMC has disclosed the details about this event on its website. They can be viewed at the "operational events" section under the "nuclear and radiation safety information" webpage of the DNMC website.
