TD monitors first public ride day of extended Kwun Tong Line to Ho Man Tin and Whampoa
**************************************************************************************
The Transport Department (TD)’s Emergency Transport Coordination Centre (ETCC) has monitored the road-based transport and traffic conditions and  maintained close liaison with the MTR Corporation Limited (MTRCL) and public transport operators, since the Kwun Tong Line extended to Ho Man Tin and Whampoa today (October 23).

Operation of the extended Kwun Tong Line and other public transport services has been generally smooth up to 2pm today.

"The TD has deployed officers at strategic locations to observe the traffic and pedestrian flow. It will also continue to monitor the transport and traffic conditions in the vicinity of the new railway stations and maintain close liaison with public transport operators to ensure smooth operation," a TD’s spokesman said.

To tie in with the extension of Kwun Tong Line to Ho Mn Tin and Whampoa, the TD has introduced four new Green Minibus (GMB) railway feeder routes, including 8M (Ho Man Tin (Sheung Wo Street) – Ho Man Tin Station), 28MS (Kowloon City (Wyler Gardens) – Ho Man Tin Station), 2M (Whampoa Station – Kowloon City (Fuk Lo Tsun Road) and 26M (To Kwa Wan (Chi Kiang Street) – Whampoa Station).  Adult Octopus users interchanging between the railway service and GMB Route Nos. 8M or 28MS at Ho Man Tin Station can enjoy a fare discount of $0.5.

As it is anticipated that there would be changes in the travel pattern of passengers upon the opening of new railway stations in Ho Man Tin and Whampoa area, the TD has formulated a public transport re-organisation plan (PT Plan).  The TD will closely monitor the actual changes in passenger demand of the affected franchised bus and GMB routes and implement rationalisation proposals under the PT Plan in phases with a target of completion within six months upon the commissioning of the extended Kwun Tong Line, according to the actual situations.

The TD reminded the public to allow more time to familiarise themselves with the new railway stations and new railway service arrangements.  The department's ETCC will continue to monitor the transport and traffic conditions tomorrow.
