Senior appointment in Police Force (with photo)

     Approval has been given for the appointment of the Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr Lau Yip-shing, as Deputy Commissioner of Police with effect from October 17, 2016, upon the retirement of Deputy Commissioner (Operations), Mr Wong Chi-hung.

     Brief biographical notes on Mr Lau Yip-shing are set out below:

     Mr Lau, 55 years old, joined the Hong Kong Police as an Inspector in 1984. He was promoted to Senior Superintendent in 2002, Chief Superintendent in 2006, Assistant Commissioner of Police in 2010 and Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police in 2013. He is currently the Director of Operations.

     In the first 10 years of his career, Mr Lau was mainly responsible for criminal investigation work at District and Headquarters levels. Since1994, he started to work in various policy wings and operations formations, including the Training Wing, the Personnel Wing, the Police Public Relations Branch, the Operations Branch of Hong Kong Island Region, Kowloon City District, Yau Tsim District, the Information Systems Wing and the Marine Region. Between 2000 and 2003, he was seconded to the Hong Kong Airport Authority, during which he was responsible for overseeing aviation security services in the Hong Kong International Airport.
