Transcript of remarks by FS at media session in Los Angeles
***********************************************************
Following is the transcript of remarks by the Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, at a media session in Los Angeles, the United States, today (October 5, Los Angeles time):

Reporter:... the gap between the rich and the poor. Do you think that your plan is going to address that issue or maybe ... the problem?

Financial Secretary: Well, right now, our unemployment rate is 3.4 per cent. Everybody who wants to find a job can certainly find the job. And I think the most important thing to narrow the gap between the rich and the poor is through education. And I think education is really the most effective equaliser that could really bridge the gap. And we are dedicating a large amount of resources to education every year. In fact education is my biggest single recurrent expenditure in my Budget. And we will continue to do that so that people will get more educated because Hong Kong is after all a knowledge-based economy, and as people have that proper knowledge, they could find a suitable job and that would ultimately improve the livelihood situation.
