Profiles of kindergartens posted online
***************************************
The Education Bureau (EDB) released the web version of the "Profile of Kindergartens and Kindergarten-cum-Child Care Centres 2016/17 School Year" at www.chsc.hk/kindergarten today (October 3) to enhance the transparency of kindergartens and kindergarten-cum-child care centres and provide relevant information to assist parents in making school choices for their children. Mobile applications (iOS and Android versions) are also available for viewing and downloading the Profile.

"The Profile covers information on about 1 000 kindergartens, including the list of kindergartens joining the Pre-primary Education Voucher Scheme (PEVS) in the 2016/17 school year. The Profile also shows the approved school fees of kindergartens for the 2016/17 school year. For kindergartens joining the PEVS, their approved school fees after the redemption of vouchers are also shown. As regards whether the kindergartens will join the Free Quality Kindergarten Education Scheme in the 2017/18 school year, the EDB has uploaded the list of applicant kindergartens to the EDB website (www.edb.gov.hk/free-quality-kg-edu_en). The list of kindergartens approved to join the Scheme, together with their estimated school fee levels in the 2017/18 school year, will be uploaded to the EDB website by the end of November this year," an EDB spokesman said.

The spokesman added, "Other information in the Profile includes the number of teaching staff, professional qualifications of the principal and teachers, enrolment, the teacher-to-pupil ratio, curriculum details, the reference prices of major school items, the application fee and the registration fee, as well as information on admission application. All kindergartens joining the PEVS are required to disclose information on the proportion of expenditure in various areas.

"All kindergartens joining the PEVS are required to undergo the Quality Review (QR) for quality assurance purposes. For those kindergartens that have completed the QR process, information on whether they have met the prescribed standards is indicated in the Profile and the latest QR Report is accessible through the link provided."

Starting from this year, the English version of the Profile is separately printed to assist parents of non-Chinese speaking children in accessing information on kindergartens more easily and comprehensively.

Printed copies of the Profile will be available for parents' reference at the Regional Education Offices of the EDB, Home Affairs Enquiry Centres of the Home Affairs Department (HAD), Support Service Centres for Ethnic Minorities funded by the HAD, Maternal and Child Health Centres of the Department of Health, Integrated Family Service Centres of the Social Welfare Department and public libraries starting from October 31.
