S for IT to visit San Francisco

     The Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr Nicholas W Yang, will leave for San Francisco tomorrow (October 2) for the Digital Cities Summit hosted by Stanford University and PARC.
 
     The first annual Digital Cities Summit will bring together some 200 global CEOs, entrepreneurs and policy makers at the Stanford campus, and will focus on how disruptive technology is changing the ways that citizens, governments and commercial organisations interact among each other. Mr Yang will take part in a panel discussion on the rise of urbanisation and digital technologies on October 3.
 
     While in the San Francisco Bay Area, Mr Yang will call on senior officials of San Francisco and San Jose and speak at a dinner hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco to promote the development of innovation and technology as Hong Kong’s new economic driver. He will attend a lunch with board members of the Hong Kong Association of Northern California to share his vision for Hong Kong in the area of innovation and technology. He will also visit prominent technology enterprises, start-up accelerators and co-working spaces in Silicon Valley.
 
     Mr Yang will take the opportunity to meet with members of the Hong Kong community in the Bay Area who include academics, technology entrepreneurs and executives. A breakfast meeting with venture capitalists and angel investors is also lined up for Mr Yang to give an update on opportunities for venture capitalists in Hong Kong.
 
     Mr Yang will depart San Francisco on Wednesday (October 5) and arrive in Hong Kong on Thursday evening (October 6). In his absence, the Under Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Dr David Chung, will act as Secretary for Innovation and Technology.
