******************************************************************************************
The Hong Kong Museum of Art launched the second phase of the Jockey Club "Museum of Art on Wheels" Outreach Learning Programme today (September 30) at the Piazza of Hong Kong Cultural Centre to start a series of local outreach activities that will begin on October 11.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, the Under Secretary for Home Affairs, Ms Florence Hui, said that although the Hong Kong Museum of Art is closed for large-scale renovation work, it will continue to engage with schools and the community. Themed "Hong Kong Sign.Hong Kong Signature", the mobile museum will bring art to all corners of the city, as well as seeking out artistic items that are hidden in the community.

Other officiating guests were the Head of Charities (Grant Making - Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture) of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Ms Rhoda Chan; the Vice President (Academic) of the Education University of Hong Kong, Professor John Lee; the President of the Hong Kong Society for Education in Art, Mr Kwong Kai-tak; and the Museum Director of the Hong Kong Museum of Art, Miss Eve Tam.

The Jockey Club "Museum of Art on Wheels" Outreach Learning Programme utilises an education art truck designed by the Hong Kong Museum of Art which tours around visiting schools and the community, bringing art into every corner of the city. The second phase of the programme will be held from October 11 this year to July 7 next year under the theme "Hong Kong Sign.Hong Kong Signature". Works by famous calligraphers, fun words found in different parts of the city and distinctive artworks by contemporary artists will be showcased, enabling viewers to discover the hybrid culture of Hong Kong as well as to meet young local artists.

In addition, 10 local artists will host projects online on the Facebook page of the "Museum of Art on Wheels" and organise workshops in different venues. Members of the public are invited to take part.

The programme is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and organised by the Hong Kong Museum of Art, funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, and co-organised by the Hong Kong Society for Education in Art and the Education University of Hong Kong.
