Territory-wide operation to combat illegal parking
**************************************************

The Police will hold a one-week territory-wide operation starting from tomorrow (September 21) to September 27 to combat illegal parking and offences which obstruct traffic flow.

Stringent enforcement action will be taken during the operation to enhance traffic flow. The Police will issue summons to drivers in relation to illegal parking, particularly double parking, illegal loading, unloading, picking-up, alighting activities and stopping or waiting at restricted zones.

A Police spokesman said that the Police would issue multiple tickets and take summons action against drivers who blatantly contravened illegal parking regulations, obstructed traffic flow or endangered other road users. Illegally parked vehicles would be towed away if necessary.

Police figures showed that a total of 732,041 fixed penalty tickets against parking offences were issued from January to June in 2016, an increase of 19 per cent compared with the same period of last year.

The Police will continue to strengthen publicity and education for road users in complying with traffic regulations, with a view to avoiding traffic accidents and maintaining smooth traffic flow.
